6 acai bowl spots in Waikiki you need to try! + tropical bowls! Oahu food to eat

One thing you must try when you go to Hawaii is an acai bowl! You have plenty of options for acai bowls and other tropical bowls that will give you Hawaii vibes.

An acai bowl is basically a smoothie bowl with an acai smoothie at the bottom. Then there are toppings like fruit and other healthy items.

Here are places in Waikiki with acai bowls that I went to!

1. Tropical Tribe

Tropical Tribe says that they were the “first store in Hawaii to serve the authentic Brazilian acai bowl”! (Acai is native to Brazil.) There are a bunch of healthy toppings you can add on too.

The first time I went to tropical tribe I got a smoothie. On my most recent visit, I got an acai bowl and took it to a table in front of the ocean! You can also sit inside their eating area with ocean views too.

What’s nearby?

Tropical Tribe is at one end of the Fort DeRussy boardwalk. So you can go for a walk from the Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon to the Fort DeRussy boardwalk, and end up at Tropical Tribe! This is also in front of the rock jetty that is known for turtle sightings. So go for a walk out on the jetty to see if they are there swimming around.

2. Banan

Banan is known for its banana soft-serve and it also has the iconic Pineapple Yacht. But they also offer acai-based bowls.

I got the acai and banana mix soft serve, which is listed on their website but wasn’t shown on the menu. I asked about it after seeing it on their online menu, and they said they can do it! So you might also want to look at their online menu before you go!

Next time, I need to try the Waikiki Dreamers bowl because… when in Waikiki!

Banan is literally located in the iconic Waikiki surfboard alley! So it’s perfect to go to along side your walk down surfboard alley to the Royal Hawaiian beach to see the iconic pink palace hotel from the beach.

So start your walk down the surfboard alley, stop by Banan, and then you can continue walking until you hit the beach! Or, if you want to have your acai bowl in the shade, head right “next door” of the alley to the Royal Hawaii Center (open-air shopping mall) where you’ll find lots of random spots to sit! Before you go to Banan, you can stop in the International Market Place to look at the massive banyan tree there!

3. Sunrise Shack

Sunrise Shack has its origins on the North Shore as an instagram-famous spot with the iconic yellow shack. They have since opened up more locations, including in Waikiki.

They do serve acai bowls, but on my most recent visit, I decided to get the papaya bowl!

 

👆 I had a papaya bowl. This Sunrise Shack location near Kuhio Beach has outdoor seating.

 

What’s nearby?

There are 2 Sunrise Shack locations, and both are right near the beach.

When I went to the Sunrise Shack in front of International Market Place near the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, I got my food and then walked a few minutes down to the beach to watch the sunset.

The other location is near Kuhio Beach. I got the tropical bowl as post-hike recovery food after my Diamond Head hike. I took the bus from Diamond Head to this part of Waikiki!

4. Shoreline Cafe

The Shoreline Cafe is a cozy spot that also serves coffee. I got the classic acai bowl!

What’s nearby?

The Shoreline Cafe is on the Hilton Hawaiian Village side of Waikiki (map + reviews). You can eat your acai bowl comfortably in the cafe, or take it to go and start walking to Ainahau Triangle and Fort DeRussy Park for a nice walk around some green space!

5. Kai Coffee Hawaii

Naturally, Kai Coffee is better known for their coffee, but they serve acai bowls too. I got the acai bowl when they had a pop-up location right alongside Kuhio Beach, so I ate my acai bowl with ocean views!

What’s nearby?

There’s a storefront near Kuhio Beach at the Alohilani Resort and the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. The Hyatt Regency location is pretty much directly in front of the Duke Kahanamoku surfer statue that you need to see!

6. ALOH Health Bar and Cafe

The ALOH Health Bar and Cafe is a place you can go for a healthy breakfast… which is what I did! You can get acai bowls and avocado toast here, along with other types of healthy toast.

 

👆 The Ala Moana Bowl has acai in it, although you can’t see it here since it’s underneath the papaya and mango.

 

What’s nearby?

It’s more “inland” compared to the other places I went for the bowls, but you’re never too far from something in Waikiki! It’s a few minutes from the non-beach side of the International Market Place, and it’s also a few minutes walk away from the Ala Wai Canal where you can go for a walk.
