So, here’s what’s on the map!
If you want to go straight to the map, here you go: Waikiki beachfront hotels map
Centrally located beachfront resorts
If you are looking for a hotel that’s directly on the beach that is also in a centrally located part of Waikiki with plenty of food spots and activities within short walking distance, then your hotels of choice are the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, the Moana Surfrider Resort, and the Royal Hawaiian Resort (aka pink palace). The Outrigger resort tends to be the most affordable in comparing prices of these hotels.
These 3 hotels sit along the same central stretch of Waikiki Beach, just across the street from the International Market Place, and the Royal Hawaiian Center is down the street. All 3 provide direct beach access, and they are also along Kalakaua Avenue which is a main road of Waikiki.

π The beach of in front of the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort is a wide sandy area. This is where the famous Duke’s Waikiki restaurant is located with live Hawaiian music in the evenings.
Including types of rooms, reviews, and current price check

π The beach in front of the Moana Surfrider is the same stretch of beach and also a nice wide sandy area. The Moana banyan courtyard opens up to the beach. This hotel is known as the First Lady of Waikiki because it was the first hotel of Waikiki Beach.

π Swimming at the beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian will give you views of Diamond Head. The Royal Hawaiian is famous for being the Pink Palace of Hawaii.

Centrally located oceanfront resort
Right next to the Royal Hawaiian is the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort. This is directly oceanfront, but there isn’t a beach out in front of the Sheraton. For the beach, you’ll walk a few steps over to the beach out in front of the Royal Hawaiian. This means that your beach will also be the central area of Waikiki Beach if you stay here.
π Directly in front of the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort is the Sheraton boardwalk along the ocean. Right next to this is the beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian.

Biggest beachfront resort in Waikiki
The biggest and most famous hotel in Waikiki is the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and this is also directly on the beach called Kahanamoku Beach.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is on the far end of Waikiki on the Ala Moana side, and in terms of location it can feel like it’s basically in its own corner. Compared to hotels in central Waikiki, thereβs less going on in the immediate area, but the resort itself has plenty of activities, restaurants, and shops on-site.Β This is also where the Atlantis submarine leaves from, and the resort also hosts the Friday night fireworks.
Along with Kahanamoku Beach that can usually offer calm swimming and fun snorkeling, there is also the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon that’s popular with families for renting paddleboards and water tricycles.

π The TV-famous Rainbow Tower is part of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and you can go swimming with views of it!

Oceanfront hotels near Fort DeRussy Beach
Fort DeRussy Beach is directly next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village beach.
There’s the coastal Fort DeRussy boardwalk that connects from the Hilton Hawaiian Village to the other end of Fort DeRussy Beach.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village side of the beach has the widest area of sand, and since it’s just outside the central area of Waikiki, it tends to feel less crowded. Getting away from the Hilton Hawaiian Village, there becomes less sand as you go towards the other end.
On the other side of the Fort DeRussy boardwalk is the Fort DeRussy Park which is a grassy and shady area that’s nice for a quiet walk around, and it can also make for a nice spot to have a picnic or do yoga.
Along the main stretch of Fort DeRussy Beach isΒ the military-only Hale Koa Hotel.
At the far end of the beach where sand is less isΒ the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. This is technically a beachfront hotel, but the beach out front is a tiny strip of sand. That said, it is possible to set up directly on the beach right near the Outrigger Reef. There’s just not a whole lot of space. If you do want more space, you can walk the Fort DeRussy boardwalk for 5 minutes and be at the actually wide sandy area of Fort DeRussy Beach (and a few steps further to Kahanamoku Beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Village).
Directly next to the Outrigger Reef hotel is the Halekulani Hotel. This also is beachfront, but it’s a small beach.
When you walk outside of the Outrigger Reef and Halekulani on the street side, you are at the food and shopping area called the Waikiki Beach Walk. There are also fun Hawaiian activities that take place here. The Royal Hawaiian Center and International Market Place are a 10 minute walk away.
Right out in front of the Outrigger Reef beach is one of the best spots to watch the Friday night fireworks.

π In front of the Hale Koa Hotel is a nice sandy area of Fort DeRussy Beach. This is also right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

π This is most of the beach area out in front of the Outrigger Reef resort. Walking out onto the walkway here is common spot to see turtles in Waikiki, although there’s never any guarantee!

π Straight ahead is the Outrigger Reef resort, and to the right is the Halekulani Hotel. Off to the left is the condo vacation rental Waikiki Shore by Outrigger.

Note that there are several “Outrigger” hotels in Waikiki! This includes the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort (the Outrigger hotel with a wide sandy beach out in front), Outrigger Reef (oceanfront hotel near Fort DeRussy Beach), the Outrigger Beachcomber Hotel (less than 5 minutes to the Royal Hawaiian beach by going down the surfboard alley), and the Outrigger Paradise Hotel (5 minute walk to Kuhio Beach). Outrigger is a hotel chain that started in Waikiki and now has resorts across the Hawaiian islands and beyond.
Hotels across the street from Kuhio Beach
The next best thing to a beachfront hotel in Waikiki is a hotel that all you need to do is cross the street to be at the beach!
Kuhio Beach has no hotels that are directly on the beach, and instead, the beach is basically directly along Kalakaua Avenue. And on the other side of Kalakaua Avenue are some hotels.
Kuhio Beach is also centrally located and walkable, and you’ll have lots of food options nearby, along with a free hula show and luaus nearby.
If you stay near Kuhio Beach, you’ll be a 10-15 minute walk from the International Market Place and Royal Hawaiian Center. You will also be near Queens Beach for the best snorkeling in Waikiki. This is also the quieter side of Waikiki, where you can have a nice walk through the grassy and shady Kapiolani Park that’s right along the ocean. This area of the park is also perfect for a picnic after picking up food from an ABC Store, or to do yoga!
There are several hotels that are directly across from Kuhio Beach including larger resorts like the Hyatt Regency Resort and the Alohilani Resort, as well as the condo-style Aston Waikiki Beach Tower that’s popular with families.

π While not directly beachfront, there are several hotels in Waikiki that are a simple walk across the street to get to the beach, including the towers of the Hyatt Regency.

The magenta pins are hotels that are directly across the street from the beach. Along with hotels, it also includes some key landmarks and other information to start to get you oriented with Waikiki. If you are having problems viewing or using the map, you can view it directly on google maps.
Once you’ve gotten a basic idea of the layout of Waikiki, next look for the “view map” option on expedia.com, hotels.com, or booking.com, and have a look at the reviews of each hotel, along with current prices. Prices can vary by season, so if you are flexible, try different dates.
