ALOHA!
If you’re walking around Waikiki and want to see something so-Hawaii, you must consider a quick walk through the Waikiki Surfboard Alley!
It’s a little walkway that’s located between the hotels, and it’s lined with tons of colorful surfboards.
It’s not a big sightseeing stop or anything, but it’s one of those spots that just feels like classic Waikiki.
And once you get to the end of the alley… it’s a beautiful beach in Waikiki!
This will be your beach of choice if you’re staying at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, along with hotels near the International Market Place.
Nearby is also the beach in front of the iconic pink palace aka the Royal Hawaiian resort.
If you want to turn it into a beach walk, you can do that!
I’ll show you below where to go and a fun little walk you can do that includes the Waikiki surfboard alley!

The Waikiki surfboard alley feels like a hidden spot.
It’s actually located in a popular area of Waikiki, but it’s easy to walk right past it without knowing it’s there!
It’s located off Kalakaua Avenue, which is one of the main streets of Waikiki. On google maps, it’s called “Waikiki Surf Alley” (map).
So once you reach the end of the alley, you’ll arrive at the beach. Off to the left is where you’ll go to see Diamond Head. But before you start walking that way, you might want to walk off toward the right!
That’s where you’ll get a grand view of the pink palace from the beach!
Then if you keep walking just a little bit, you’ll end up at the Sheraton boardwalk. This is on the ocean side of the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort. It’s a short little thing, but I love the views from the Sheraton boardwalk!
Once you’ve gotten your Waikiki pictures of those things, you can start your beach walk towards Diamond Head.
After a few minutes, you’ll see the beachside of the Moana Surfrider resort.
Once you’re in front of the Moana Surfrider, you can see the Moana banyan courtyard. You’ll know when you see it because there’s a banyan tree here! You can see it from the beach. This banyan tree gets lit up at night.
Keep walking and you’ll end up at Kuhio Beach!

👆 A walkway lined with surfboards that lead to the beach!

👆 Along the way is a spot that you can get an acai bowl! (A shop called Banan.)

👆 Walk just a couple of minutes through the surfboards and you are at the beach!

👆 Once you’re at the beach, look right and you’ll see the iconic pink palace hotel up close! (aka the Royal Hawaiian resort)

👆 Keep walking in the same direction, and you’ll get on the short Sheraton Boardwalk at the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort.

👆 Take the surfboard alley to walk to the beach if you’re staying at a hotel near the International Market Place, including the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort!
Quick travel tips when you’re OFF TO WAIKIKI!
Walk the iconic Waikiki surfboard alley!
Here’s your walking route:
- “Enter” the Waikiki surfboard alley from Kalakaua Avenue in front of the International Market Place (map)
- See the pink palace from the beach side
- Walk a little bit of the Sheraton boardwalk for the views (it’s not that long)
- Turn around and start walking on the beach towards Diamond Head
- Stop to look at the Moana banyan tree at the Moana Surfrider resort
- Walk to Kuhio Beach and you can end up back on Kalakaua Avenue!
Before you start down the walk, head into the International Market Place so you can see the massive banyan tree there! Go upstairs to get a view from the treehouse!
Right near the start of the Waikiki surfboard alley is Sunrise Shack (reviews). This is a famous instagram food spot on the North Shore of Oahu, and they have a Waikiki location too. Buy an acai bowl or another smoothie bowl and take it to the beach!
Another very Hawaii food spot you can go to is Banan (reviews). This spot you will come across as you are actually walking the alley. Have an acai bowl in Waikiki at Banan!
