ALOHA!
It’s quite reasonable to walk from Koko Head to Hanauma Bay.
There’s a little backroad you can take to go straight from the Koko Head parking lot or the Koko Head hike trailhead.
This path leads you straight to Kalanianaole Highway.
Once you reach the highway, you will see the Hanauma Bay entrance on the other side.
While the highway is a major road with cars going fast, there is a crosswalk to make it relatively safe. (Still, take care!)
Once you cross the road, you’ll follow the pedestrian path to get to the admissions area where you will show your Hanauma Bay reservation.
It’s about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Koko Head to Hanauma Bay.
I’ve done this walk, and below I’ll show you in pictures what it looks like so you can see that it’s not a big deal!

Koko Head to Hanauma Bay
On google maps, it appears as though you can’t walk directly from Koko Head to Hanauma Bay because it has the road ending, and instead takes you the long way around. But you can go straight through and cross the highway to get to Hanauma Bay.

π You can walk from Koko Head District Park to Hanauma Bay. You’ll take the backroad to Kalanianaole Highway, and then you can cross the road to get to Hanauma Bay. (map)

π Welcome to Koko Head District Park!

π The way to Hanauma Bay (and the trailhead for the Koko Head hike) is further up, so just keep going to the end.
π Officially, the Koko Head parking lot is not for Hanauma Bay.

π You keep going until the end of this road past the parking lot to get to Hanauma Bay from Koko Head.

π At the end of the parking lot, the road continues. That’s where you’ll walk.

π You’ll walk up the hill to the end of the road, at which point you will arrive at Koko Head Park Road.

π You’ll turn right to start walking on Koko Head Park Road to Hanauma Bay.

π There’s a gate at the end of Koko Head Park Road, and that’s also the main road of Kalanianaole Highway.

π You can walk around the gate and you will be at the main road.

π The Hanauma Bay park entrance is on the other side of the road. Look for the crosswalk!

π Welcome to Hanauma Bay!

π You’ll continue walking on the sidewalk.

π You’ll cross over to go the pedestrian way.

π There are stairs that go down to the Hanauma Bay parking lot and admissions area.

π You’ll walk through the Hanauma Bay parking lot.

π And then you’ll arrive at the admissions are for official entry into Hanauma Bay!

π There is a free tram that you can take down to Hanauma Bay, but I suggest that you skip that and walk down! You will see some of the best views of Hanauma Bay that way, and you can stop to take pictures!

π And then you can start snorkeling!
